Slow Cooking Loooove

So, I talked about slow decorating yesterday per the advice of The Nesting Place.  Then, lo and behold, the family got me a slow cooker — No, I  stand corrected  — the ORIGINAL CROCKPOT  — for my birthday.  Now, yes, this may seem like an un-sexy gift, but it was paired with dinner & tickets to a broadway series show (sexy) plus a giant bag of peanut M&Ms (super sexy).

Also, I have to admit — this is my third crockpot.  However, it kicks the arse of any previous crockpot because….it has a timer!  That means, no more burnt, nay, charred chicken, messing with additional liquids, or driving home at 95 miles per hour after work to save the dish after 10 total hours of stewing.  AMEN! 

I do admit, I was secretly pining for the All-Clad Deluxe Slow Cooker…but at $400 a pop it just couldn’t be justified.

Sigh.

But, this fella will do just fine:

I was pretty certain that Martha would think a crockpot is not “A Good Thing” but alas — check it out!   Also, were you aware that you could be a crock-star?!   Nope, neither was I. 

I am thinking about adding a whole new category for nothing but slow-cooked, mother approved meals.  You in?

    Hey! I got a programmable crockpot too . . .for Christmas! I have used it for two night’s dinners this week! I LOVE it! You program the time and temperature. After the cooking time, it keeps it warm for up to 14 hours! I made a lasagna recipe that only took 5-6 hours, but it was warm (not burnt) and ready to eat when I got home from work! Share any recipes that you try and like!

    Here’s the lasagna recipe from Fix It & Forget It Lightly:

    1/4 lb. extra lean ground beef (I use 1 lb. of ground sausage)
    8oz pkg. of wide egg noodles
    1 cup fat-free cottage cheese
    1/2 cup shredded low-fat moz.cheese
    1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    2 1/2 cups spaghetti sauce

    1. Brown meat. Set aside
    2. Cook noodles and drain. Toss noodles with moz. and parm. cheese.
    3. Mix meat and spaghetti sauce.
    4. Spoon 1/3 of meat sauce in bottom of slow cooker.
    5. Layer in 1/2 of noodles.
    6. Add a layer of 1 cup cottage cheese.
    7. Add 1/3 meat sauce. Top with remaining noodles. Finish with remaining meat sauce.
    8. Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours.
    Makes 6 servings.
    300 calories, 9 total fat per serving.
