A SNM Christmas, brought to you by Picnik

I am following the lead of some other bloggers across the interwebs by displaying my holiday decor.

First, I was a little ba-hum bug about ye olde Christmas decor this year. Not sure what is was, but according to my Facebook friends, it appears to be an epidemic this year. Recession depression?

Anyhoo , I took a couple of photos of what I DID decorate and then, on some, played around with the editing tools on Picnik in an attempt to boost their visual appeal. Not sure I succeeded…

Picnik is a great (free…unless you upgrade) online tool for editing photos. I have to say it is definitely more user-friendly than Photoshop Elements. Try it out.

My Tree. I could bore you with specific ornaments and their history. But I won’t.

Today is the first anniversary of Shes.No.Martha.

One year ago today, I posted some photos of my last cookie exchange (note: I am somewhat sad I am not hosting it this year, but the co-chair of the event is busy raising 9-week old triplets).

At this point, I am not sure where this venture is headed. Somedays I want to ramp it up, redesign it, and get more followers. Other days, I just want to scrap the entire thing and sleep a little more.

But for now, I will wish it a HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Product Review: Mascara

Haven’t done a product review yet, but I will be brief and to the point. I love make-up. Especially mascara. It’s what I would take with me on a deserted island. God forbid, I look tired while wasting away on coconuts. Bring on the basal cell carcinoma.

How to create a kid-friendly Family Room

I know how tough it can be to try to co-exist with toys. I’ve been through those days of the giant play kitchen sitting in my living room. Actually, I bought the kitchen that I thought best complemented my color scheme. Not kidding. Then, we moved on to a casket-sized toy box that the husband built. It was great to hold all the toys, but since it still sat IN the family room, the toys would spill over. And over, and over.

The key to co-exist is to create cleverly hidden pockets of storage for all of those must-have-close by toys. Brought to you by BHG here. I would recommend going with storage containers that have a more timeless appeal and will take you past the age of toys. Think baskets or some vintage crates.

Also, fabrics and surfaces that can withstand your Sharpie-yielding Tasmanian devil.

Master Bedroom – Making it Happen

I am finally getting in gear for the master bedroom re-do. Wait, instead of “re-do” I should just say “do” cuz nothing’s ever been DONE to begin with.

I have slept in a giant white builders box for 2 years now. I want my serene calming retreat and I want it now, damn it!

I have mulled over designs, schemes, trends and wish lists. I created the ~~jumble of crap~~ mood board below.

I have worked on smaller individual projects, but after all that, I still feel like I am not going to end up with a cohesive look. Those projects include the bench at the end of the bed and the Louis XVI chair make-over.

So, I enlisted the help of one of favorite bloggers and designers, Bryn from Bryn Alexandra Interiors. After some consulting, she provided me the mood board that will allow me to build the room according to a master plan.

I am happy to say there is a plan:

There are a few changes I’d like to make but overall, it helps to have something to work TOWARD.

I can’t wait to start working on it. Look forward to the post in, what, 2020?!

You have all seen the Louis XVI chairs around and about. And if you haven’t, I’m not sure where you’ve been….

I was on the hunt for one of these bad boys so that I could attempt to recover it. I finally found this one at Ubberhaus last Winter:

However, at $75, I wasn’t sure I wanted to attempt anything with fabric. Someday I’d love to get this recovered in a nubby linen fabric (like the Wisteria version below) but until then, I had to get rid of that dark mid 1990′s wood.

To begin, I taped off the fabric. Then RIPPED OFF the tape and went at it full force. (Note to other DIYs — that “Frog Tape” that people praise? Yeah, it’s shitty — don’t buy it).

In some places, I literally pushed down the fabric, painted, and let go. I am shameful…

So, you ask, are there small bits of paint on the fabric? Yes. Can the normal everyday person see it? NO. ‘Nuff said.

I do love a little of the dark wood peeking through on the arms and top.

(although I don’t like that bit of dark wood peeking out above. That, my friends, is just a plain old-fashioned mistake…)

What do you think? Right color? Does it need more distressing?
